A Note From Ed-10/16/2009:
Now that we have been in the water for a month, I would like to discuss swim meets. Swim meets are considered a reward for coming to practice & working hard. It is an opportunity for a swimmer to find out if the way s/he has been training is working and what is needed to continue to improve. Once a swimmer/parent signs-up for a meet, there is a commitment to properly prepare for that meet. Since you get to choose which meets fit your schedule, it is expected that the swimmer will attend practice on a regular basis the weeks leading up to that meet. Swimmers should not attend a meet unless they can make this commitment.
Swimming is a tough, rigorous sport. My goal is to teach the swimmers in Group 3 how to be successful in this sport. Times must be earned as they can not be given to anyone. Through hard work and effort, a swimmer will achieve much success. This is a life lesson as well.
I am asking for everyone’s support with this. Please only sign up for meets where the commitment can be made. If you sign up for a meet and can’t make this commitment, then the swimmer should not attend the meet. Best times are achieved at meets, but they are earned at practice.

A Note From Ed- 09/14/2009
Welcome to the Bergen Barracudas and Group 3. I am looking forward to another great year with swimmers that love to work hard. I have high expectations for the swimmers in my group and will be pushing them to do things they may not believe they can do. Swimming is a tremendous sport as it teaches many valuable life lessons, the most important being that hard work leads to success.
No coach can make a kid a better swimmer without their commitment to it as well. I have no magic wands. The only promise I make is that if the kids get in the water they will get wet. After that the effort and desire they demonstrate in practice will, to a large extent, determine their success.
Swimming is a training based sport. You need to attend practice on a regular basis in order to do well. I do not expect anyone, including myself, to attend every practice. During a normal 2 week period we have 12 practices (6 per week). Try to average 75%, which is 9 out of 12. If you can make more that’s GREAT!! If you make less that’s OK, but try to improve on that the next 2 weeks. I do keep attendance and hand out a summary every 2 weeks (starting in October).
Another key item is communication. If you miss one practice, no need to contact me. However, if you are out 2 or more days please let me know. Please check our website often as this is our main way of communicating to our parents & swimmers. I will have discussions with the group regarding swim meets in a couple of weeks.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. However, please do not try to do this during our practice time as that is when I should be working with the swimmers.
Thanks,
